Salinas, CA (September 6, 2013) – ACTION Council of Monterey County is excited to announce its commitment of $250,000 for the development of Rockrose Gardens, Interim Inc.’s newest affordable housing project with supportive services for people with psychiatric disabilities. The ACTION Council made an initial award of $100,000 followed by a matching grant award of $150,000. ACTION Council Executive Director Larry Imwalle stated "As trustee for The Ingram Housing Fund, ACTION Council is proud to be one of the largest local funders of this affordable housing project that will provide 20 units of new affordable, permanent housing for low-income adults with psychiatric disabilities.”

Construction on the project is slated to begin in September and is being kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the construction site located at 3012 Lexington Court in Marina. This exciting project is possible due to the leadership of Interim Inc. and the assistance of The ACTION Council and other local organizations including Monterey Peninsula Foundation, Community Foundation for Monterey County, Harden Foundation, and Interfaith Outreach of Carmel. In addition to this funding, donations are still needed. For each donation of up to a total $100,000 received, The ACTION Council and The Ingram Housing Fund will match at 150%.

Rockrose Gardens will include two, two-story residential buildings and a one-story community building surrounding a central courtyard. The two residential buildings will provide 20 one-bedroom units of affordable housing and a two-bedroom resident manager’s unit. The community building and courtyard will provide comfortable places for residents to meet and socialize, as well as offices for support staff. Rockrose Gardens will enhance the area as it replaces two abandoned, blighted buildings currently at that location.
